As states certify their election results, President Trump faces down increasingly improbable re-election prospects. Although some, including myself, have argued that there is still an extraordinarily narrow, legal path to victory for Trump, the burden of proof required to achieve such an outcome appears insurmountable. As of today, we have seen no evidence of mass voter fraud, meaning hundreds of thousands or even tens of thousands of fraudulent ballots. Although we have seen many individual instances of voter fraud as well as severe election mismanagement in many counties, there simply is not enough evidence yet to overturn the election results in Michigan, Pennsylvania, or Georgia.
On Nov. 15, the Trump campaign dropped their claims of voter fraud from their Pennsylvania lawsuit, and subsequently, on Nov. 19, dropped their last Michigan lawsuit altogether. On Nov. 22, the Trump campaign ousted Sidney Powell, releasing a statement articulating that she is now “practicing law on her own… [and] not a member of the Trump Legal Team.” And this week, President Trump directed Emily Murphy of the U.S. General Services Administration to begin the transition process to a Biden Administration–opening up access for Biden to receive daily intelligence briefings. So, Trump may be out of the White House. But what does that mean for his political future?
He could run for president again in 2024. According to reports from the Daily Beast, Trump has considered this course of action and could be planning a 2024 campaign rally on Biden’s Inauguration Day. Although it would be difficult for him to secure the Republican nomination in 2024, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities and would align with Trump’s persona.
We could also see Trump use a political action committee (PAC) to retain influence over the Republican Party. With potential contributions from millions of his loyal supporters, he would have the ability to raise a massive war chest, influencing Republican primaries and campaigns at all levels of government. Trump has already filed with the SEC to create the “Save America” leadership PAC, which will be used to support congressional candidates and other office seekers.
At a minimum, I believe we will see him mimic Hillary’s post-election conduct, traveling the country while claiming that the election was “stolen” and that we have an “illegitimate President.” At the end of the day—regardless of whether Trump is living in the White House or in his Florida mansion—when it comes to the political arena, it looks like he’s here to stay. -Brandon
Brandon, newcomer here. As an independent voter, we will sadly be hearing from the outgoing president for some time. Conservative outlets are clamoring over him to be a recurring guest as they know it will be a ratings bonanza. The key is there is no official reason to listen to his BS.
What he is doing now is disappointing, but not surprising, as he has planned and staged this voter fraud scheme for about six months – defaming the mail-in process, hobbling the post office, hiring 1,000 attorneys, asking GOP voters to vote in person because those votes are counted first and getting some state legislatures to tighten mail-in procedures.
What I find most disappointing is the many silent Republican Senators who are saying nothing. Trump and his surrogates have lost 49 court cases and won only one. That is one more win than a dead man has. Many of the judges and election officials pushing back are Republicans, but they are getting death threats. They need air cover as they are the ones remembering to what they swore an oath.
So, I am hoping for this most corrupt and deceitful president in my lifetime (which includes Richard Nixon who was a crook) to just go away. He will claim he won for four years, but hopefully more folks will grow tired of his sales schtick. Keith

Welcome, Keith! Thank you for adding to the discussion. I’ll also note that yesterday the Supreme Court declined to hear Trump’s appeal in Pennsylvania. -Brandon

I wouldn’t be surprised that Trump will be too busy trying to avoid criminal charges to run in 2024. He is by far a great con man who will milk his supporters for millions of dollars.

I think it is improbable that Trump will face any criminal charges. Democrats spent hundreds of millions of dollars investigating Trump, impeached him, then provided zero evidence of criminal conduct. While I think he has acted extremely unpresidential at times, this has not translated to criminality. -Brandon

Perhaps I haven’t been tuned into politics these days, particular after the elections…but I don’t hear much of Trump in the news anymore, except when he was accusing states of voter fraud and whatnot. Otherwise, all I’m hearing are the spikes in COVID cases, and Trump isn’t doing anything to deal with it. I think he’s just laying low until he’s replaced by Biden in January, and we’ll have to see if he pulls a Grover Cleveland in 2024. Will have to see, indeed…

Thanks for engaging with our blog, Rebecca! That’s an interesting point. Grover Cleveland is the only President who served two, non-consecutive terms. So, as you said, we will have to see if that’s a club Trump will attempt to join.
As for Covid, Trump and the federal government have been focus on the development and distribution of the vaccine. And according to Trump, the first deliveries of the vaccine will begin next week or the week after. Hopefully this is accurate because there’s a much greater risk of exposer to the virus during the holidays. -Brandon
